Kurzfassung

Together with the Meissen Albrechtsburg Castle, the New Castle (Neues Schloss) in Ingolstadt can be regarded as an important example of courtly architecture of the early modern period in central Europe. According to the current state of research the building is meant to have been initiated by Louis VII, Duke of Bavaria-Ingolstadt in 1417/18. However, its architectural style indicates a construction in the late 15th century. Therefore, acting on a suggestion by the historian Peter Jäckel, the author of the paper believes that the »new castle« of Louis VII mentioned in the archival documents is not to be identified with the New Castle. The location of the former should be reconsidered. Finally, the author proposes the year of 1479 for the beginning of the construction of the New Castle which is confirmed by the 15th century accounts.
